Ever have one of those weekends that are so great that you don’t even care about all the little things that go wrong? That was my Labor Day 2011. I was in Springfield, Mo., for a wedding and despite a few minor mishaps – seriously, who drives away with the bride and groom’s guestbook in the trunk of their car? – I had a wonderful time.

We drove down on Saturday morning and had lunch at Houlihan’s before the rehearsal dinner at Springfield Pasta Company (more salad, please!). On Sunday, I got some indoor pool time in and ate lunch at Buckingham’s BBQ before heading off to the wedding at the Carriage House at Hmvboldt Place. I’ve got to admit, I was a little worried when we woke up on Sunday and saw the overcast skies, but by the time the guests started showing up for the ceremony, the skies were bright blue and the sun was shining. Gorgeous day for a wedding! And the perfect outdoor venue for it! (Brides take note: pick a venue with swings and merry-go-rounds and room to run for the kiddos. Their parents will thank you.)

Of course, my favorite thing about getting out of town for the weekend is all the stress-free fun that comes with it. I enjoyed my fair share of nap time in the comfy hotel beds and even took my time getting home on Monday, stopping at Meramec Vineyards for lunch and a tasting. Every Labor Day should be so perfect.
