iconic women // Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis
Beyond the slight resemblance I bear to this striking woman, it’s her classic style and poised demeanor I admire. She had the ability to make anything, including a simple pair of jeans and trench coat, look incredibly in vogue. As a timeless beauty who spent her life as one of America’s darlings, she set the stage for stylish First Ladies. And although we may know Jackie most notably as an icon of style, it was her dedication to writing and editing I find most inspiring.
At 22, she entered a writing contest for Vogue Magazine, winning the place of junior editor over 1,280 other entries. Though she turned the offer to move to Paris down, Jackie continued to work as an ‘Inquiring Camera Girl’ for the Washington Times-Herald – which is where she met John F. Kennedy. Her working life paused at that time for the duration of two marriages, but after the passing of her second husband, Aristotle Onassis, she took a job as an editor for Doubleday. Jackie spent the rest of her life working with authors to publish books, leaving behind a legacy in print.
An admirable woman, whose sense of style and poise I can only hope to portray.
Special thanks, again, goes to Holly and Felisa from ProColour Salon for transforming us into these women, and to Blake Fehl for being our brilliant photographer.
