Meet Lauren. Tattoo artist, painter, and item rescuer/re-builder. As a self-proclaimed ‘inside child’, Lauren grew up drawing. Taking some art classes at community college, she learned drawing was a trade, not just a feeling. After years of practice (coming from a family of teachers), Lauren started a career teaching art at a private school. Seeking a new opportunity – and figuring out a classroom full of kids just wasn’t for her – Lauren found herself in a tattoo shop showing her portfolio to a tattoo artist seeking an apprentice. Five years later, Lauren has re-located herself from the shop where she started and has made a home at Tower Classic. “Tattooing found me. As a kid I would sit up and draw on friends, but I lived in a tattoo-less universe until I was nineteen. It wasn’t something I grew up thinking I’d do.”

Laurens life outside of ink keeps her just as busy as tattooing. Managing an etsy shop filled with paintings, illustrations and up-cycled vintage finds, Lauren is a creative force. “I’ve always loved digging trough thrift stores,’ she says about curating a vintage collection on her etsy site. Often repairing or up-cycling slighted beat-up vintage finds with a new patch or some fresh paint, Lauren is pretty meticulous about the edits made to an item. “I try not to paint over anything in great condition.”

Although tattooing and painting are entirely different mediums, each requiring a particular skill-set, Lauren keeps up with both – and does it well! Check out some of her illustrations and paintings here.
