Gingerbread Houses

December 11, 2012

Every year growing up, my mother would bake gingerbread from scratch. She’d cut the dough into all the pieces that made the house and stock up on candy. For hours we’d sit and stick pez and gum drops to the roof and sides. It’s been a couple years since the last time our house smelled like molasses, so I broke out the old recipe and bought way too much candy.

Well, not real traditions, but I still remember the happiness of laying in bed after the wonderful, candle-lit handing out of presents … It felt so secure and complete. That’s what I want for my kids when they are young.
